Tillotson and Sexton cemetery records from Elsie, Michigan

There are two cemeteries in Elsie. The earlier and smaller cemetery is the Elsie Village Cemetery. The other is the Riverside Cemetery. These cemetery records were extracted from publications of the Elsie Historical Society. Some folks have more than one burial plot: either two within the same cemetery, or one in each cemetery. I do not know the actual burial plot for such "dual burial" individuals.

Notes:

• Charlotte Maria Tillotson was the sister of William Thomas Tillotson. Her second husband was Oscar Wales Darling who is buried in the same lot with Charlotte.
• Clarence O. Darling was the grandson of Charlotte and Oscar Darling. Clarence, who probably died as a young child, was the son of Fred Raymond Darling and Addie Cunningham.
• Freddie B. Tillotson was the son of Leonard Tillotson, Jr. and Julia Ann Brainard.
• Hattie Emeline Tillotson and Milo Daniel Tillotson were children who died young of Franklin James Tillotson and his wife Jane Ann Sexton Tillotson, my great-great-grandparents.
• Leonard Tillotson, Jr. was the younger brother of William Thomas Tillotson.
• Marvin Luzurne Tillotson was the son of William Thomas Tillotson and Mary Elizabeth Wooll.
• Mary Cossitt (or Cosset) Thomas was the wife of Leonard Tillotson, Sr. They were the parents of William Thomas Tillotson. Mary was the daughter of Cornelius and Susannah Cossitt Thomas. Susannah was a half-sister of Orpha Cossitt, the mother of Roxa Adams. Roxa was the wife of Henry Youmans Sexton. Henry and Roxa were the parents of Charles and Jane Ann Sexton (see below). Jane Ann was the wife of Franklin James Tillotson.
• Mary Elizabeth Wooll was William Thomas Tillotson's wife. Mary was the daughter of Kingston and Hannah Oliver Wooll.
• William Thomas Tillotson was a first cousin of Franklin James. William's father was Leonard Tillotson, Sr., son of Samuel Tillotson and Sarah Partridge. Franklin's father was Daniel Tillotson, Leonard Sr.'s brother, also a son of Samuel and Sarah. See William L. Kidder's Tillotson/Linzee Diaries Study for information about William and his family.
• Charles Gurley Wait was the husband of Mary Eliza Tillotson.
• Mary Eliza Tillotson was the sister of William Thomas Tillotson and a first cousin of Franklin James Tillotson. Mary's husband was Charles Gurley Wait.

Notes:

• Charles Edward Bennett was the son of Mary Emeline Tillotson and David Humes Bennett. Charles was the husband of Ida May Darling.
• Ida May Darling was the wife of Charles Edward Bennett. Ida was the daughter of Charlotte Maria Tillotson and Oscar Wales Darling.
• Myra Luella Tillotson was the daughter of William Thomas Tillotson and Betsy Wooll. Myra is listed as being buried in two different plots, once as Myra Burwell and again as Myra Copenhaver. Myra was married first to Elijah J. Burwell and second to James Copenhaver.
• Hattie Corlista Tillotson was the daughter of William Thomas Tillotson and Betsy Wooll. She married Levi Arthur Maynard.
• Betty E. Tillotson was the stillborn daughter of William Ira Tillotson and Myrtle L. Maynard.
• Don U. Tillotson was the son of Marion Tillotson and Eva Jane Bennett.
• Eva Jane Bennett was the wife of Marion Tillotson and the daughter of Caroline Maria Sexton and Albert C. Bennett.
• Harriet M. Wilcox was the first wife of William Ira Tillotson.
• Margarite Louise Phillips was the wife of Leonard C. Tillotson, son of William Ira Tillotson.
• Marion Leonard Tillotson was the son of William Thomas Tillotson and Betsy Wooll, and the husband of Eva Jane Bennett.
• Myrtle L. Maynard was the second wife of William Ira Tillotson.
• William Ira Tillotson was the son of William Thomas Tillotson and Betsy Wooll, and the husband of Eva Jane Bennett.

Notes:

• Caroline Maria Sexton was the daughter of Henry Youmans Sexton and Minerva Peat. Caroline was a half-sister of my great-great-grandmother Jane Ann Sexton Tillotson.
• Charles Sexton was the younger brother of Jane Ann Sexton and the son of Henry Youmans Sexton and Roxa Adams.
• Nancy M. Lewis was the wife of Charles Sexton.
• Henry Youmans Sexton was the father of Charles Sexton and my great-great-grandmother Jane Ann Sexton.
• Minerva Peat was Henry's second (possibly third) wife. His first (possibly second) wife, Roxa Adams, was the mother of Charles, Jane Ann, and Mary E. Sexton. Roxa died in Waterbury, Connecticut on December 29, 1829, shortly after Charles was born.
• Deforest, Harry L., George E., Martin, Deforrest, and Willie F. were children of Charles and Nancy. Willie F. Sexton should be William J. Sexton, and his death date should be 1865 instead of 1855 since he was born March 28, 1860. Willie, Deforest, and Martin share a single grave monument.
• Ellen Eliza Sexton was the youngest daughter of Henry and Minerva.

Notes:

• Ernest J. Sexton was the son of Charles Sexton, the younger brother of my great-great-grandmother Jane Ann Sexton.
• Mary A. "Mayme" Hayes was the wife of Ernest J. Sexton. She was first married to James H. Martin, and she is buried with him.
• I assume Ruth L. Chamberlain was the first wife of Ernest J. Sexton since she is buried with him.
